Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
In the Office of Sponsored Programs Accounting (SPA), the Accountant is responsible for monitoring sponsored research accounts from the Federal Government, State Government, Foundations and Corporations. This will include, among other duties, the preparation of invoices, sponsor-required financial reports, timely collection of outstanding receivables, and identifying problems that may affect the cash position of the University. The Accountant will monitor spending on sponsored awards for compliance with federal regulations and University policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which includes, or was supplemented by, 24 semester hours of accounting and/or auditing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years experience in a professional high volume, complex accounting or auditing operation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and internal control practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, or similar computer productivity tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently on complex assignments.
- Ability to acquire, apply and expand knowledge of the University’s policies and operating details for sponsored programs.
- Commitment to client service and sensitivity to the value of a culturally and ethnically diverse work force is essential.
Preferences:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Higher Education or Government Contracting setting.
- Knowledge of Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards preferred.
