Position Summary:
The Welding Instructor is a part-time faculty member responsible for conducting assigned classes of instruction. A part-time, or adjunct, faculty member is employed to provide direct instruction in either a classroom, lab, clinical, or distance education setting on a semester contract basis. The primary responsibility of part-time faculty is to provide quality instruction to students. Adjunct instructors are provided a contract for a single term only. Each contract ends at the end of the term, and a new contract will be provided if the adjunct faculty is hired for another term. An adjunct faculty member is under the management of the Program/Division Chair and supervised by the Academic Dean.
Required Education/Experience:
- A.A.S. degree in welding
- 5 years’ work experience as a welder or a combination as a welder and inspector that totals 5 years with at least 3 as a welder.
- AWS Certified welding inspector; former qualified welder in FCAW or GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW pipe.
- Able to use welding codes for inspection and welding certification; capable of performing welder qualification (certification); theory of welding processes; knowledge of welding safety as required by AWS Z49.1 safety manual.
- Knowledge of metallurgy; basic electrical knowledge; fabrication experience.
- Must demonstrate the ability to pass a welder qualification test on pipe with SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW in house. Demonstrate cutting skills; some heavy lifting is required.
- As part of the job, you will be required to perform welder qualification for students that complete a semester without charge.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient with computers, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Proficient in keeping records on students.
