Summary of Position
The field research and lab associate will play a critical role as an important member of the UNH Coastal Habitat Restoration Team working at the Jackson Estuarine Laboratory in the School of Marine Sciences and Ocean Engineering. They will direct and coordinate a shared research laboratory and provide logistics for field campaigns where data collections are made that are critical for project success. In addition to research lab coordination, they will direct and perform laboratory analyses, provide statistical analyses, and contribute to peer reviewed journal articles and competitive grant proposals for ongoing research led by Drs. Burdick and Grizzle. The Associate will also actively co-mentor graduate and undergraduate students with Burdick and coordinate graduate and undergraduate lab activities, including training in lab and field methodologies, equipment maintenance, and related activities to promote our research programs.

Other minimum qualifications
- Master’s in biology, ecology, or a closely related disciplines
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of statistical programs and analysis for biologists, including R coding
- Good problem-solving skills; attention to detail; ability to learn quickly and to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with undergraduate researchers, graduate students, and the general public
- Expert organizational skills to maintain budgets, lab scheduling, and lab orderliness
- Ability to spend full days outside in a field conditions of eelgrass, oyster and salt marsh habitats, covering up to 5 miles of ground in a day while carrying 20-50lbs of equipment.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data collection techniques in eelgrass, oyster, and salt marsh ecosystems
- Familiarity with salt marsh, eelgrass and oyster ecosystems and conservation techniques
- Experience processing water and soil samples
- Experience with small watercraft

Duty/Responsibility
Perform fieldwork, including eelgrass and oyster restoration projects in Great Bay, research in salt marshes includes identification of impairments to surface hydrology, vegetation, elevation, and bird surveys, setting and removing water level recorders, collecting soil and water samples, and other fieldwork as needed. Process soil/water samples in the lab. Prepare materials in the lab for deployment in the field. Order supplies and maintain lab inventory.
Duty/Responsibility
Assist in experimental design and conduct statistical analyses required for detailed scientific reports and peer-reviewed journal publications; Contribute writing to such publications as a co-author as well as competitive grant proposals; Maintain shared record keeping and analyze data.
