The Poole College of Management offers undergraduate degrees in accounting, business administration, and economics. The Office of Undergraduate Programs within Poole College promotes and supports the holistic development of Poole College students as leaders in our diverse, global community. In partnership with our faculty, staff, and external constituents, we provide the resources necessary to empower students to make well-informed decisions in support of their academic, professional, and personal development. Our resources are provided in an environment that fosters recognition of and respect for individual diversity and cultural competence while promoting a community of inclusion and equity.
The Office of Undergraduate Programs supports our undergraduate student resource units in the Poole College of Management including academic advising, diversity and inclusion, global programming, and career and internship development. Our academic advisors act as a catalyst for students to achieve their best outcomes, providing developmentally focused advising that incorporates both curricular and co-curricular guidance. Our academic advisors are instrumental in the whole student experience from the academic requirements necessary to progress to graduation to the full breadth and depth of co-curricular offerings within our College that allow students to be as competitive as possible upon graduation.
Essential Job Duties
The Associate Director of Advising Programs is a full-time, 12-month administrative position (EHRA) that reports directly to the Director of Academic Advising and is responsible for the creation, management, and assessment of academic advising programs specific to special populations of students within and relevant to the Poole College of Management. The role expects the implementation of a system of student educational planning and support for certain populations including but not limited to international students, student-athletes, academic minors, as well as internal and external transfer students.
The Associate Director of Advising Programs will have full supervisory responsibility for full-time academic advisors and several non-professional support staff members including relevant student organizations. Additionally, the Associate Director of Advising Programs will collaborate closely with the Director of Recruiting in the shared supervision of a part-time Assistant Director focused specifically on working with prospective internal and external transfer students. The Associate Director of Advising Programs will also have responsibility for supporting students using a team advising approach which will provide advice and guidance on curriculum, course scheduling, college and university policies, and curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
The Associate Director of Advising Programs will work closely with other members of the Office of Undergraduate Programs and the campus community to promote and support student success and engagement in conjunction with the mission of the Office of Undergraduate Programs and the Academic Advising team.
Active participation in Poole College of Management events including evenings and weekends as needed to effectively execute the responsibilities of the position is expected.
- Advise a large student load of undergraduate students in the Poole College of Management regarding academic requirements (matriculation and graduation), course selection and registration, and other issues related to academic and student success (i.e., international study, student organizations, internships).
- Teach section(s) of the college’s orientation course: Professionalism, Diversity and Academic Success in Management.
- Develop and deliver programs to diverse student populations in order to promote student engagement and success.
- Participate in college and university student recruitment, advising and student development programs and events, including some evening and weekend events.
- Manage/advise student organization(s) within the college.
- Participate in Undergraduate Programs Leadership Team Meetings.
- Coordinate team advising approach to appointment availability, drop-in, and email responses.
- Present sessions for Advisor Development Sessions as needed.
- Work on assessment plan and implementation of initiatives.
- Serve as the coordinator of advising activities for our international dual degree programs
- Oversee DEI initiatives for academic advising.
- Design and execution of advising-related communications and programming in support of several special populations of students including, but not limited to, international students, athletes, academic minors.
- Planning and coordination of first-year student events including Welcome Week, Transfer and CODA student orientation.
- Collaboration with Director of Admissions in supervision of half-time advisor for prospective internal and external transfer students.
- Supervision and development of academic advising GA student staff as necessary.
- Engagement on relevant office, college and university committees as assigned by the Director of Advising.
- Management of web and other communication materials associated with academic advising programs and student engagement.
- Collaboration with the Director in developing and executing assessment of academic advising programs.
This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Schedule

Minimum Education and Experience
- Require post-baccalaureate credentials including a Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, business, or other related field.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience in academic advising at the college level, preferably in a business program.
- Evidence of successful attainment of measurable outcomes in student advising position.
- Strong communication skills: oral, written, and presentation.
- Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills; ability to effectively juggle large student loads and multiple responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years’ experience in management and leadership of a team in a business or educational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a team with measurable outcomes in successful attainment of team goals.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing, implementing and meeting goals and outcomes in a team setting within business or education.
- Experience with NC State Student Information System and advising systems including Navigate, NC State degree audits, and NC State Pack Planner.
- Familiarity with Poole College of Management curriculum, degree requirements, and paths to degree completion.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
- A valid North Carolina driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
