Essential Job Duties
The Biotechnology (BIT) research assistant is responsible for providing research, teaching and technical support for courses in the biotechnology program. Regular duties will include:
- Pilot and troubleshoot experimental procedures for multiple sections of the core biotechnology course BIT 410/510 Manipulating Recombinant DNA and Core Technologies in Molecular Biotechnology
- Design and perform animal cell culture experiments, intended for BIT410/510, using the fluorescent indicator, CaMPARI, to assess calcium signaling
- Write and maintain electronic laboratory notebook protocols for BIT410/510
- Develop protocols for the preparation of lab reagents and materials for BIT410/510
- Order and prepare reagents and supplies for all BIT 410/510 sections
- Serve as the tissue culture teaching assistant for all BIT410/510 sections
- Develop educational material for tissue culture assistance in collaboration with instructors
- Assist BIT instructors in reagent and supply preparation as well as troubleshooting protocols for other BIT module laboratory courses
- Provide hands-on assistance and instruction to Undergraduate Laboratory Assistants and Teaching Assistants
- Organize and maintain record of stock supplies in collaboration with laboratory manager
- Assist in laboratory management and maintenance
- Provide husbandry care for various model organisms used in BIT laboratory courses.
- Maintain standards of safety in all BIT laboratories
