TECHNICIAN A ELECTRO-MECHANICAL, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to provide technical support to the PSFC’s scientific experiments, infrastructure, and facilities with a focus on cryogenics and vacuum hardware and associated instrumentation. Will work closely with scientific and engineering staff to define job requirements; learn from senior technicians, engineers, and scientists to successfully complete all assigned tasks; assemble, operate, and maintain liquid (e.g., liquid nitrogen) and gaseous (e.g., helium) cryogenic systems; utilize liquid cryogen dewars, high-pressure gas cylinders, and associated equipment (e.g., regulators); assemble, operate, and maintain high vacuum systems (e.g., rough pumps, turbo pumps, fittings, and flanges); maintain the tools, parts, and equipment required to provide vacuum and cryogenic capabilities; and contribute general technician support (e.g., assembly/disassembly, cleaning, rigging/lifting, and operations).
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: a high-school diploma or GED certificate; graduation from a two-year technical school or its equivalent such as technical military training; hands-on hardware experience with mechanical systems; working knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, and safety procedures; and ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in confined spaces and on ladders.
