Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This is a unique position in that the role crosses two departments in the School of Public Health, Family Science (FMSC) and Behavioral and Community Health (BCH). Reporting to the Department Chairs, the Director is responsible for providing strategic direction for the fiscal and operational services for FMSC and BCH. BCH is committed to translating knowledge gained from community health behavior and promotion into effective prevention and interventions across the lifespan through a dynamic research agenda and student-focused training programs, and hosts several research centers, including the Prevention Research Center. FMSC is a nationally recognized prominent program for innovative research and scholarship, family and community engagement, and teaching and training in Family Science. FMSC also operates the Center for Healthy Families, a training and research center which annually provides mental health services to 450 families. Both departments offer Bachelor, Masters and PhD programs.
The departments have a combined annual budget of approximately $13M in state, foundation, research, and entrepreneurial funds.
The incumbent oversees and provides fiscal analysis on all department financial accounts including state, federal, sponsored project, and foundation accounts; manages the fiscal and administrative operations; acts as a liaison to the School of Public Health and to campus administrative entities such as human resources, procurement and academic affairs; and working with the department chair, the director ensures the department complies with all federal, state and university policies and contractual obligations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or other related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in higher education administration, including research administration, finance, accounting, contract or grant administration and 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience in building and managing state and entrepreneurial budgets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge base of higher education principles, policies and practices as they apply to fiscal management, knowledge of federal and state policies, and accounting principles.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
- Ability to take an initiative on projects, analyze situations and present creative solutions, coordinate on an array of projects, work with difficult people, effectively supervise and lead teams, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated diplomacy and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to prepare and analyze complex spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and financial accounting systems (including BA4).
- Ability to perform in a high pressure, fast paced working environment.
- Ability to initiate a proactive approach to problem-solving and organization.

Additional Information:
Salary range: $106,000 – $125,000

- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, operate office equipment, possess the visual acuity to read from a computer screen or printed report; carry up to 10 pounds and lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects occasionally.
