About the Department
The College of Engineering at NC State University created in the late 1980’s distance education programs to serve the educational needs of the citizens of North Carolina and practicing engineers and computer scientists in the region. The Office of Distance Engineering Education, known as Engineering Online, is responsible for the coordination of synchronous and asynchronous classes, registration of students, handling student issues regarding course delivery, student services, marketing of programs, and working with faculty in the development and delivery of classes.
As part of Engineering Online, NC State’s site-based Mechanical Engineering Systems
BSE Program is located on the campus of Craven Community College in Havelock, NC. The
MES program serves the residents and businesses in Eastern North Carolina by attracting local students and providing a way for them to earn an NC State engineering degree without leaving the area. Students receive Mechanical Engineering courses from the Raleigh campus through live interactive video, and the eight
MES courses are taught by on-site NC State faculty. The program admits approximately twenty students each year and offers them a mentoring environment in which to grow their knowledge of engineering theory and practice. Further information on the program can be found at:
https://www.engr.ncsu.edu/mes.
The Havelock campus is centrally located and within 45 minutes of historic New Bern and several beach communities such as Emerald Isle, Swansboro, Cape Carteret, Pine Knoll Shores, Morehead City, and Atlantic beach.
