The Critical Materials Institute at the Ames National Laboratory is seeking to fill multiple Postdoctoral Research Associate positions.
The postdoctoral researchers will perform innovative research on critical materials challenges. This research can involve one or more of the following areas: (i) magnetism and magnetic materials including permanent magnets, with and without rare earth elements, as well as other magnetic materials; (ii) combinatorial synthesis and high-throughput characterization of materials, (iii) additive manufacturing of magnetic, functional, and/or structural materials; (iv) recycling technologies focused on critical materials. The candidate(s) will be responsible for design, synthesis, processing, and characterization of materials using a suite of capabilities at Ames Laboratory. As part of a U.S. Energy Innovation Hub, the candidate is expected to work with a principal investigator, Ames Laboratory scientists and other collaborators in national laboratories, industry and universities to develop approaches for producing magnetic materials, especially permanent magnets, with minimal or no critical elements.
Other duties include writing reports, publishing and presenting results, and supervising students. The ideal candidate can communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences, is comfortable working in a cross-cutting, multidisciplinary research environment, and is a self-motivated individual who is willing to take initiative and leadership of research problems. While working in the Critical Materials Institute, the candidate will learn and contribute to various avenues of delivering solutions to materials criticality. The candidate will collaborate with a network of highly talented researchers from national laboratories, universities and companies.
