About the Department
Outreach, Communications and Consulting (OCC) is a unit of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at NC State University. The unit coordinates a wide range of activities and provides training, consulting, media production, project & portfolio management, and information services to enhance the use of technologies. The unit acts as a liaison to foster engagement and open communications between OIT and the NC State community it serves.
Essential Job Duties
Position provides technical training and technical support at the tier 2&3 level for core Google Workspace apps, IT security principles, and other applications and OIT services as needed. This position serves as a content strategist providing graphic and multimedia design services, content development and instructional design expertise for OIT’s education, outreach and awareness programs. Support is also provided for OCC/OIT’s digital and paper publications.
This position will serve on several OIT teams such as OIT’s CyberSecurity Awareness Team (CSAT). This team provides IT security awareness and education to our campus community. This position will serve as a client liaison and consultant to promote solutions and outreach programs that will meet the needs of the end user.
As part of the education, outreach and training team, this position has a crucial role in helping assess the needs of the clients being assisted to provide appropriate solutions. Clients include OIT staff as well as other university employees and students as they look to develop and provide training and outreach solutions.
Training and outreach
- Understand how the technology solutions available can be presented in an effective way to allow the campus community to take advantage of them, developing, or assisting in developing, the content for those services, including Google Workspace and promoting effective cybersecurity measures to safeguard university and personal data.
- Instructional design services for the online content and delivery (e.g. Data Security Training)
- Technical training for Google Workspace, IT Security and other OIT applications and services
- Technical support at a tier 2 / 3 level for Google Workspace, IT Security
- Content creation / documentation and other materials (marketing) for training & outreach
- Instructor for various OIT initiatives and ongoing programs such as New Student Programs, New Employee Orientation, Quickstart, and other outreach activities.
Graphic design services and support
- Digital and paper publications & communications
- Digital and paper marketing & campaign planning (orientation, new services)
Special projects
- Graphic design, marketing, communications and instructional technology expertise for professional development presentations and conferences (UNC CAUSE, presentations for CIO, CISO)
- Photography for events as needed and as time allows
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with experience in education & training and instructional content development.
Other Required Qualifications
- Ability to prioritize projects independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to multi-task and must be comfortable moving from one project to another in order to meet deadlines.
- Strong writing and speaking skills; understanding how to adjust content based on audience skill level.
- Knowledge of graphic and instructional design principles as well as knowledge of appropriate delivery mechanisms for online training is necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills needed for teams and other group projects and collaboration.
- In-depth technical knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace apps, IT security principles (multi-factor authentication and intermediate knowledge of smart phones [Android & iOS] for trainings and questions).
- Strong, in-depth knowledge in the area of digital formats & publishing and design principles.
