Job Description

REFERRAL SPECIALIST, MIT Medical, to facilitate prior authorizations and required referrals to satisfy health insurance requirements.  Will collaborate with patients, patient’s providers, and representatives from partner health care settings and diagnostic sites; maintain core medical terminology and health insurance knowledge to ensure appropriate connections and appointments are made with the correct referral partner; facilitate communications between all parties through notification of referral need; and ensure that referrals are correctly and expediently executed so that patient health, well-being, safety, and satisfaction is held to the highest level.  There will be extensive patient contact, in-person, through electronic messaging protocols, and by telephone.

REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ experience working with health care referrals as a patient service representative or experience in a similar health care setting; ability to prioritize, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and follow through; excellent organizational and customer service skills; self-motivation; ability to communicate effectively with patients, clinicians, and other professional staff over the telephone; ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with diverse internal/external constituencies; knowledge of medical terminology and health care overview of primary care interaction with specialty services, e.g., pre-admission and pretesting requirements; working knowledge of insurance regulations and form completion and CPT and ICD10 coding; and experience using telephone software and headset (Cisco preferred) and ability to spend several hours using telephone systems each day.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of deductibles and FSAs/HSAs; associate’s degree or higher in health care, communications, business, or other relevant field; ambulatory care experience; comfort with technology; and working knowledge of MS Office. Job #22299-5
