Summary
The Division of Hematology/Oncology (HemOnc) is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join their finance team. The Division oversees the financial management of several funding sources (Federal, Non-Federal, Foundations, other Institutions, etc) and therefore provides a diverse and dynamic environment in which to work and learn. This individual will serve in a pre- and post-award capacity for our Division, providing support for our faculty throughout the grant submission process as well as financial management.

Responsibilities*
Pre-Award
- Assist faculty members with the completion of various Sponsor documents for initial submission, to include collection of necessary documents from not only the PI, but also applicable Co-I’s and subcontract sites.
- Prepare budgets of varying complexities
- Coordinate the timely routing of proposals through the institutional approval process in a deadline driven environment
- Aid in the creation/updating of faculty biosketches and other support documents (pre-grant submission and post-submission)
- Assist with progress reports for existing awards
- Maintain appropriate communications with the Department of Internal Medicine, the Medical School and the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (ORSP) and Sponsored Programs regarding issues to be addressed, as well as new forms/processes/procedures.
Post-Award
- Reconciliation of faculty accounts (sponsored and non-sponsored) for accuracy and allowability. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies which may arise.
- Meet with faculty members to discuss financials, as well as prepare any necessary/requested reports to display balance projections based on burn-rate, staffing, etc.
- Assist with the completion of sponsored project annual progress reports.
- Work with Financial Operations on Project/Grant financial reporting (interim and final) and closeout.
- Process PARs (DBE changes)
- Review Concur reports, PCard reports, and Travel and Business Hosting reports for compliance with University and Sponsor rules and correct classification and appropriateness of expenditures. Communicates with faculty and staff as necessary and educates others in the Division regarding Concur and PCard rules and regulations.
- Process journal entries for error correction and necessary transfers
- Process check/cash deposits as needed
- Assist with annual effort certifications, as well as processing of as-needed certifications for qualifying staff leaving during the fiscal year.
Required Qualifications*
Research Administrator Senior
- Bachelor degree and 5 + years of progressive grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with eResearch, Business Objects, M-Reports, and M-Pathways
- Preferred candidates will have exposure to a wide variety of sponsors including National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense, Foundations, industry contracts, and clinical trials and will have specific experience with the NIH salary and other NIH specific spending, effort reduction, and budget restrictions.
Research Administrator Intermediate
- Bachelor degree and 3 - 5 years of grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications*
- Knowledge of pre-award activities involved with sponsored research projects including UM policies and procedures.
- Experience with budgeting, assembling and managing complex projects.
- Experience with proposal preparation of NIH, DoD, Foundation, Clinical Trial and Industry proposals.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff in a diverse academic environment.
- Strong computer skills and exceptional interpersonal skills, and a high level of resourcefulness, motivation, accountability, and the ability to think analytically.
- Knowledgeable of relevant University policies related to pre and post award research administration.
- Experience with Word, Excel, as well as solid MPathways knowledge, and experience with electronic proposal submission systems, particularly eResearch and Grants.gov.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely for various mediums, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
Work Locations
This position may be eligible for remote and/or flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
