This course introduces students to different ways of engaging critically with audiovisual media. Students will learn to analyze key aspects of film, television, and digital media, and to develop critical arguments about them that draw on different kinds of evidence.

In short, FTVM 150 is designed to enhance your critical literacy in film, television, and digital media, and your ability to create well-supported analyses and arguments about media and other cultural forms.
Course Requirements:
Two unit tests, short written and audiovisual essays, participation.
Intended Audience:
Any undergraduate student with an interest in developing a better critical understanding of audiovisual cultures.
Class Format:
Two 1.5-hour interactive lecture sessions, one 50-minute discussion section, and one screening session per week.
This is a .5 GSI position.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
-Evaluating and grading course work
-Holding regular office hours to assist students throughout the course
-Being available over email to the students, and helping students in case they have any questions pertaining to the course
-Attending all lectures (MW 2:30-4pm) and instructor meetings.
-Teaching two discussion sections per week (Tuesdays, 4-5pm and 5-6pm).
Applicants with knowledge of film, television, and media studies. Currently enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. To be appointed as a GSI or GSSA, a graduate student must be in good standing in their degree program and for Terms I and II, must be registered for not less than six (6) credit hours. With written approval of the student's faculty advisor, five (5) credit hours may be acceptable. Ability to effectively teach and evaluate undergraduate students.
Background and knowledge relevant to film/television/media studies. LSA student enrolled in a graduate program.
