TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, McGovern Institute for Brain Research-AbuGoot Lab (2 openings), to help develop molecular tools, cell engineering technologies, and novel cell reprogramming approaches. Specific projects will include discovery and characterization of novel enzymes for gene therapy and cell engineering. Projects will involve molecular cloning, protein purification, and mammalian cell culture. Additional responsibilities will include data analysis and communication of results to other team members, providing experimental support and leading independent parts of the project as necessary, generating protocols, maintaining common reagents, managing lab safety issues, and helping with other lab management needs.
This position emphasizes scientific growth and is ideal for someone who wants to work within teams to advance the research in a fast-paced environment. There will be opportunities for direct mentorship by the principal investigators of the lab, Omar Abudayyeh, Ph.D. and Jonathan Gootenberg, Ph.D., in both research and publication efforts and to develop independence in promising research directions.
REQUIRED: scientific or engineering bachelor’s degree in the areas of biology, biological engineering, or a related field; at least two years’ relevant research experience (which may include undergraduate research experience), including some experience in a biological laboratory, preferably with mammalian tissue culture, biochemistry, or molecular biology; comfort working with rodents; excellent organizational, communication, planning, and time-management skills; interest in being an integral part of a cutting-edge research team; and ability to execute independent projects. PREFERRED: knowledge of and experience with relevant molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture techniques, genetic engineering, and animal care; and familiarity with programming languages such as Python for data analysis.
