Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State University. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Ian Williams on numerical modeling of moist convection and land-atmosphere interactions. The appointment is for one-year, with a possibility of extension depending on available funding and job performance. Candidates with training in either atmospheric science or terrestrial ecology/land-surface modeling are encouraged to apply, but must have research experience using numerical models and scientific computing.
Depending on the successful candidate’s background and interests, job responsibilities may include: Performing and analyzing experiments using convection-allowing or LES configurations of regional/regionally-refined models (e.g., WRF); modeling historical and future climate/land-use scenarios to understand the effects of land surface change on clouds and precipitation; and evaluating model hindcasts against in-situ and remote-sensing observations to improve sub-grid scale parameterization of water cycle processes in Earth system models.
