Post Doc/Trainee
Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The position involves three areas of focus:
1) Research (70%) - The research part mainly involves conducting independent and collaborative projects that use biochemical, biophysical, and structural methods to study regulatory mechanisms of protein complexes central to membrane signaling and the actin cytoskeleton. Specifically, the research activities include protein expression from both bacterial and insect cell cultures, purification and reconstitution of large protein complexes using a variety of chromatography techniques, molecular biology techniques to engineer novel protein constructs for stabilizing and studying weak protein-protein interactions, and various biochemical and biophysical assays of studying protein-protein interactions and enzyme kinetics, including structure-function analysis, pull-down assays, actin polymerization assay, isothermal titration calorimetry, chemical crosslinking, fluorescence-based assays, single molecule fluorescence microscopy, mass spectrometry, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and cryo-EM. As an integral part of research activities, the position also involves writing lab protocols, SOPs, and manuscripts, attending seminars, communicating with collaborators by mails, emails, and on-line meetings, and reporting results in weekly lab meetings as well as local and national conferences.
2) Management (25%) - In addition to research, the position involves miscellaneous types of lab responsibilities, which may include ordering supplies and chemicals, making common lab reagents, maintaining tissue culture and equipment, maintaining laboratory safety, organization, and efficiency, supervising and training undergraduate and graduate students, and training new laboratory staff on standard laboratory procedures.
