The Data Science Academy (DSA) is the first of several NC State Academies, which are true universitywide efforts involving all 10 colleges. The Data Science Academy will encompass multiple departments, centers, and institutes and address all three pillars of the university’s land-grant mission: education, research, and service to the state of North Carolina. Essential Job Duties
The DSA Teaching Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the course program of the Data Science Academy.
The Course Coordinator, with guidance and oversight from the Executive Director, will be responsible for:
- Recruiting and hiring lecturers.
- Assisting Lecturers with syllabus and course development.
- Preparing and disseminating orientation and support materials for Lecturers (e.g. course learning management systems, data science IT, evaluations, grades, academic integrity).
- Supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion DEI within all aspects of the courses and helping build an inclusive learning community.
- Communicating with programs across the university who want to incorporate DSA courses into their programs of study (concentrations, degrees, certificates).
- Supporting the Lecturers by leading groups in biweekly teaching meetings.
- Recruiting, hiring, and managing undergraduate teaching assistants.
- Collecting data from the lecturers to support DSA educational research.
- Organizing and analyzing DSA midterm feedback from students for continuous improvement as well as end-of-course evaluations.
- Maintaining awareness of new trends and best practices in data science education.
- Teaching up to two 1-credit DSA courses each semester.
- Continuing to develop and refine the ADAPT course model
- Assess the ways the ideas in the ADAPT model are enacted in DSA courses.

- Attend weekend and evening events, as needed.
- Interface with faculty, students, and staff across campus
- Support and guidance for communications, grant writing, and development efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
- A data science related Master’s Degree with at least five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- A data science related PhD with at least five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
- Some industry experience

- Course development
- Course assessment
- Instructor mentoring and support
- DEI teaching practices
- Data science domain expertise
- Industry, government, non-profit, or community-based data science projects
