SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, WALKER LAB, Biology, to assist with research related to gaining detailed new insights into the heme binding/sequestering mechanism of a small plant peptide and testing of multiple potential therapeutic applications of the peptide. Responsibilities include carrying out biological, molecular biological, biochemical/biophysical, and microbiological research on heme binding to a plant peptide; using mammalian cell culture experiments to address various functions of plant peptide in eukaryotic systems; measuring cytotoxicity and mutagenesis in cells treated with plant peptides; creating and maintaining microbiological stocks; performing literature searches; analyzing results and making graphs and assisting with writing and making presentations; supplying materials to and coordinating research with collaborators; ordering supplies; maintaining equipment; interacting with vendors; assisting with general lab maintenance and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements; and performing other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: a high school diploma or its equivalent and basic computing skills and proficiency with Excel. Should have experience with at least a subset of the following: basic microbiological skills, growth assays, basic microscopy techniques, mammalian cell line culture (primary and transformed cells), transfections, chemical treatment of cells, and viability assays; DNA/RNA/protein extraction and quantitation, DNA sequencing, PCR, RT-PCR, western blots, immunoprecipitations, transformation, and DNA cloning; bacterial expression and purification of native and tagged proteins, SDS-PAGE and immunoblot analysis, ELISA, and enzymatic assays.
