Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Recruitment and Retention, the Minority Male Student Initiative (MMSI) Program Coordinator will work diligently to increase retention, progression, and graduate rates for minority male students. The MMSI Program Coordinator will provide academic and career advising, academic support services to students by collecting, organizing, and analyzing information, and participate in College programs, activities, and committees which are designed to promote minority male student persistence, retention, and completion.
As a representative of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, (MMSI) Program Coordinator will be a fearless advocate for the College and its students – on the phone, in person, and online. The MMSI Program Coordinator makes a difference by helping students achieve their goal of obtaining a degree
The MMSI position is part-time and grant funded through the 2025-2026 school year.
Staff Required Education/Experience:
- Associate Degree
- Three years of work experience in human services is required.
- Experience working with the community college student population (e.g. adult learners, low income, first-generation, etc.).
- Experience with college-level retention efforts.
Desired Education/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Demonstrated understanding of complex issues facing higher education.
- Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of retention in higher education.
- Experience with data collection and analytics.
The ideal candidate will possess a positive customer-oriented focus with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Duty and Responsibility:
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the program, research, and coordinator programming collects data and acts as the liaison between the program and other entities both internally and externally.

Manages a caseload of students advising them on a variety of issues related to assigned academic area(s).

Provides vision and direction for retention initiatives with a particular focus on minority males and serves as an advocate for the interests of traditionally underrepresented students, including advising and connection to related student support services.
Duty and Responsibility:
Collaborates with and provides consultation to the College community related to diversity and inclusion, specifically minority male academic success and retention. Engages in identifying and addressing institutional barriers to student retention and graduation, specifically for minority males.

Provides and facilitates training across multiple dimensions of diversity through program development and collaboration in both Academic and Student Affairs departments.
Duty and Responsibility:
Assists with recruitment and retention initiatives by establishing and maintaining partnerships with local high schools to create a pipeline of students to Rowan-Cabarrus and the Minority Male Student Success Program.
Duty and Responsibility:
Serves as the Advisor to the MMSI student club organization.
Duty and Responsibility:
Prepares, reviews, and submits a variety of operational and student records, reports, and related documents and information. Monitors program participation, evaluate program performance and recommends program improvements.
