Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Coordinator for Equity and Social Justice will enlist education, training, and research as part of an updated commitment to supporting fraternities/sororities with an equity- and justice-minded approach. The Coordinator will focus on finding solutions to inequalities and injustices in the fraternity/sorority and greater UMD communities.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise Graduate Coordinator for Diversity & Inclusion and associated programming (Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion advising, Syndesis retreat, Intergroup Dialogue course, chapter response meetings, educational presentations, and workshops)
- Supervise Graduate Coordinator for Sexual Assault Prevention and associated programming (Ten Terp Plan for Sexual Assault Prevention, matchup programs, Intern program)
- Live-on responsibilities for The Agora, a non-residential programming space for members of our MGC and NPHC community, including facility management, programming support, space reservations, and vendor relationships
- Address hate-bias and equity issues within fraternities/sororities; serve as a liaison to Bias Incident Support Services, Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct, and Title IX
- Teach a for-credit course on history and future of equity and justice in fraternity/sorority life and support the graduate coordinator in teaching the Intergroup Dialogue course.
- Serve as liaison to campus partners, including Nyumburu, Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy, LGBT Equity Center, Accessibility & Disability Services, Memorial Chapel, Health Promotion and Wellness Services, CARE to Stop Violence, and International Students & Scholars Services
- Advise up to six chapters as part of the chapter coaching model
- Facilitate training, workshops, and other activities for staff members and students related to equity, social justice, diversity and inclusion, and sexual assault prevention
- Reimagine departmental traditions, programs, and practices with a social justice lens
- Oversee departmental social identity-based affinity groups and meet-up spaces (including monthly 1:1s with group facilitators, offering guidance on group direction; creation of new groups as appropriate)
- Review all departmental policies for issues of equity, access, and inclusion; propose and manage changes
- Work with Advising and Programming Coordinators to assess each chapter’s opportunities for growth related to diversity and inclusion
- Conduct yearly equity and social justice audits and report findings to the leadership team (including major demographics reports for fraternities/sororities)
- Serve on the duty-phone rotation with other DFSL Coordinators
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. One year of professional experience is required. Demonstrated ability to work in a student life setting necessary. The Coordinator for Equity and Social Justice is a twelve-month exempt staff level position that reports to the Assistant Director for Advising and Programming.
Preferences:
Master’s degree preferred. Experience in student affairs work at a University or equivalent setting is preferred. Experience advising fraternity and sorority life is preferred.

This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The position does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs. May lift 40 pounds at some time. May have to rearrange furniture for events and meetings.
