Position Responsibilities
| Position Summary | The University of Idaho, College of Agricultural & Life Sciences, Plant Sciences department, is seeking a Research Faculty, Assistant Professor, to develop an extramurally funded, nationally and internationally recognized research program to address sustainable production in controlled environment systems. This candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively with other faculty members in research and to engage industry as appropriate as partners and in outreach. Specific areas of research may include plant nutrition and disease, irrigation systems, hydroponics, vertical farming and organic production within controlled environments. Potential collaborations include Plant Science faculty on campus and at Research & Extension Centers and Soil and Water Systems faculty that have an emphasis on precision agriculture and the engineering aspects of controlled environment production. The successful candidate is expected to publish in high quality refereed journals, garner nationally competitive grants funded to support the research, be active in regional and national disciplinary societies in presentation of research, and successfully mentor graduate student thesis and postdoctoral research. The candidate will develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in controlled environment food crop production, teaching courses to support programs in both horticulture and plant science programs as well as the sustainable food systems program in the Department of Soil and Water Systems. Participation in undergraduate advising and graduate student thesis mentoring is expected. The candidate is expected to contribute to the department, college, and university with appropriate involvement in service. |

| Unit/Department Summary | Plant Sciences: The Department of Plant Sciences works to advance research and address many local, regional and global challenges such as breeding plants to tolerate drought-stress, developing sustainable cropping practices and conserving plant species for future generations. The department offers undergraduate majors in crop science, horticulture and urban agriculture, biotechnology and plant genomics and crop management. Minors in crop science and horticulture and advanced degrees in plant science are also offered. Plant sciences delivers statewide programs of teaching, research and extension about crops, horticulture and genomics. Our faculty and support personnel are located on the main Moscow campus and at research and extension centers in Aberdeen, Idaho Falls, Kimberly, Parma and Twin Falls. Soil & Water Systems: The Department of Soil and Water Systems combines faculty in soil science, agronomy, hydrology, sediment transport, irrigation engineering, waste management and precision agriculture to address resource issues related to soil, water quality and quantity and sustainable food, energy and waste systems. The department has a statewide presence and is committed to excellence in teaching, research and extension. We prepare students to take up careers in soil, plant and environmentally related disciplines to discover new scientific knowledge and develop technologies to sustain production systems, extend technological developments to the public and promote the wise use, management and stewardship of soil, plant and water resources.
