The Michigan Medicine Department of Human Resource is seeking an experienced Executive Compensation Consultant as we grow our compensation function to advance health to serve Michigan and the world. In collaboration with the Director of Compensation and external consultants, lead the design, enhancement and ongoing management of Michigan Medicine’s executive compensation and incentive programs. This position may be filled at either the lead or senior level depending on qualifications. Reports to the Director of Compensation. Teleworking opportunities are available.

Manages the executive compensation program including the design and administration of salary, short and long-term incentive plans, pay policies, rewards and benefits, performance measurement/goal setting, peer group development, benchmarking, joint ventures, etc.
Builds strong relationships to understand business needs and provides full service total rewards consultation.
Leads and supports multiple executive compensation projects, including the strategic assessment of program effectiveness and modeling of potential program changes, developing, and managing policies and processes, and complying with regulatory changes.
Proactively recommends and implements improvements to current executive compensation programs, policies, and processes for both immediate and long-term objectives, ensuring our programs and practices remain innovative, competitive, efficient, and effective.
Guides the decision-making process and outcomes by providing detailed analysis/models, innovative recommendations, and expert knowledge.
Maintains awareness of the latest trends and regulations regarding executive compensation.
Consults with leaders and business partners regarding executive and variable pay issues including benchmarking, leveling, performance, and compensation recommendations.
Monitors federal, state, and local compensation regulations. Audits pay practices to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, regulations and internal pay policies.
Leads the development of materials prepared for leadership teams and the Compensation Committee
Manages external vendor relationships
Lends expertise to staff (broad based) compensation as needed
Participates in professional development to maintain and grow compensation capabilities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration, finance, economics human resources, or related fields that use quantitative analysis. Additional education including graduate degrees and WorldatWork compensation certifications may be substituted for experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 8 years
At least 8 years of progressive broad-based and executive compensation experience for the lead level and 5 years of experience for the senior level, preferably in a large, complex organization. Experience consulting and influencing business partners and executives. Experience with variable pay programs.

Demonstrated ability to develop and successfully implement sound, repeatable business/human resources processes, with a strong focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation & facilitation skills, and exquisite attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to value all people, understand, and appreciate their unique experiences, styles, talents, and perspectives and to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to structure, implement, and manage to successful completion complex compensation projects involving cross-functional teams.

Proven ability to consistently exercise appropriate judgment and discretion in all job functions, even when clearly defined processes may not be in place.
Demonstrated technology literacy skills with advanced proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio with the ability to create dynamic tools and models to interpret and analyze data.
Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
