Education Program Description: The Education Program is a part of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. The program trainees include approximately 25 House Officers in the ACGME-accredited Residency Program, 1 Pediatric Fellow and 1-2 Otology/Neurotology Fellows in ACGME-accredited Fellowships, and approximately 5 other Otolaryngology trainees. Additionally, the Education Program facilitates training of M1-M4 students in Otolaryngology, coordinates Special Program Trainee placements, organizes annual education events including dissection courses, skills labs and boot camps, and manages the Departmental Continuing Medical Education process.

Responsibilities*
- Residency Program: Serves as Residency Program Coordinator. Collaborates in management, interpretation, and analysis, and makes recommendations of certain aspects of the residency/fellowship program. Implements changes approved by program leadership. Prepares, coordinates, and monitors residency/ fellowship related administrative activities through the application of broad GME knowledge, practices and principles in conjunction with, or occasionally on behalf of, the Program Director.
- Assists, tracks, and organizes residency/fellowship related administrative activities through applying fundamental knowledge in conjunction with the Program Director. Acts as primary point of contact for house officers throughout their residency program.
- Organizes and directly performs operational activities required to support: weekly CME conferences (Grand Rounds, Resident Didactics – Catering, Zoom set-up, etc.), verifications of former trainees, ordering lab coats/scrubs, maintaining files, and acting as another point of contact.
- Education Courses and Events: Works in conjunction with education events coordinator and Communications and Marketing team, as well as faculty and resident course directors, to manage logistics and materials for education courses and events. Coordinates residency graduation celebration event annually.
- CME Coordination: Maintain central calendar of all weekly/monthly/yearly Otolaryngology CME conferences. Manage all CME application processes and maintain compliance with CME office.
- Clinical Shadowing: Oversees our 4-month shadowing partnership with Ann Arbor Public Schools (AAPS), setting daily assignments and working with the AAPS course director for individual requests. The education coordinator will also manage the shadowing of undergraduate and medical students, obtaining necessary clearances and paperwork, as well as assisting in orientation when necessary.
- International Student and other Clinical Site Visitors: In collaboration with Global Reach, this individual will coordinate all aspects for visiting student scholars to the department. Serves as subject matter expert and coordinator of clinical shadowing.
- Special Program Trainees: Organizes and executes all processes and activities to support special program traineeships.
- Effectively engages with department’s administrative team and provide backup duties when necessary.
- Conducts other duties as assigned as needs arise within educational program and according to overall department needs.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3-5 years of professional/administrative experience
- Demonstrated ability to think autonomously and escalate issues as needed
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a large range of stakeholders from across multiple work areas/missions
- Demonstrated ability to operate with considerable independence and work under general supervision
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple competing deadlines, and to deliver work in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner
Desired Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working as a residency program coordinator
- Experience with/ knowledge of Graduate Medical Education (GME) policies/procedures
- Experience with HR processes, policies, and procedures
- Experience in an academic health system
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures, MedHub, Wolverine Access, Concur
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
