Overall Opportunity: The new Executive Director will be a dynamic thought leader in the role of youth leadership development and will continue to build and nurture a dedicated staff and cultivate board collaboration to advance the mission.
The Executive Director will build on the strong work of a well-recognized organization in pursuit of leadership development for students throughout our network. The
Executive Director will lead the national office to continually position the organization as the industry leader in career and technical education. In addition, the Executive Director will have the opportunity to lead the formation of new strategic partnerships, drive the creation of new initiatives to grow and support membership, provide motivating hands-on staff management and training to the national staff, and lead other important organizational strategic initiatives.
This position requires significant travel (when it is safe to do so) to numerous meetings, events, state and national conferences to carry out the work of the role. While the national office is located in Columbus, Ohio, this position is remote.
Organizational Leadership: The Executive Director oversees the day-to-day operations to position the organization as the industry-leading career and technical student organization nationally and internationally through skills including strategic planning, communications, fundraising, operations, fiscal, personnel, and program oversight and will have experience working in student leadership development or adjacent mission areas with an understanding of strategic communications and narrative change.
Resource Development: Oversee the development and implementation of the organization's annual fundraising plan to secure the resources to execute the mission of BPA. Experienced in nonprofit fund development and energized to play a lead role in fundraising, including cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding funders. Support relationships with current funders, including individuals, and corporations and leverage external relationships to garner new opportunities and grow a broader pool of funders. Maintain, strengthen, and develop relationships with program partners, peer organizations, funders, and the media. Grant writing experience is required.
Membership: The executive director will be an enthusiastic champion of students, advisors, alumni, and professional members and support and affirm their views and interests while serving as the leading voice for
CTE. They will drive membership efforts in collaboration with the Board, staff, and advisors to meet organizational goals and objectives and create, improve, and oversee membership programs.
Team Management: This position will be a leader who can cultivate, support, and inspire a united and high-performing team by providing effective communication, coaching, and performance management; communicate accountability, decision making, operations, and processes. This position will build a solid foundation to hold staff accountable for their goals and the organization's desired financial and programmatic outcomes and foster a positive environment that encourages successful long-term engagement.
Board Governance: Partner with the Board of Trustees to further establish good governance and effective committee structures; identify opportunities to strengthen the Board and support all members and BPA advisory groups. Drive organizational growth by creating a consensus among board members, state, classroom, and business advisors, volunteers, committees, and staff for needed projects, strategic plans, and organizational changes. Balance the needs of the Board, officers, and members in consensus building and buy-in.
Marketing, Communications & Public Speaking: The ED will serve as the organization's chief spokesperson and advocate with a passion for BPA's student members and strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to educate, inspire, persuade, and motivate a variety of key stakeholders, including corporate partners, elected officials, government agencies, donors, and the media, with a proven capacity to convene, collaborate, and build coalitions with other advocates and stakeholders.
Coordinate and collaborate with agencies and organizations serving career and technical education, including
CTSOs; consciously enhancing BPA's image by working closely with professional, civic, and private organizations. Represent BPA by attending public events, committee meetings, community meetings, professional functions, and events.
Financial Oversight: As an experienced and motivated executive with financial and business acumen, this position will oversee a complex organization's operational and financial management. Provides sound fiscal and business management and holds accountability for legal integrity, compliance, human resources, and ethics.
Continuously evaluates the budgeting process to increase operational efficiency, enhance internal controls, and provide clear financial guidance. Monitors board-approved budget and manage daily financial operations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the organization. Analyzes data and provides growth plans to overcome organizational challenges; develops fiscal plans, grants, membership, business, and other aspects of revenue generation.
Required Qualifications
Salary & Benefits: BPA offers competitive wages and excellent benefits, including high-quality health insurance with dental and vision coverage, life insurance, generous paid leave and retirement plans, and other work/life benefits. The salary range for this position is between $115,000 - $125,000 and will be commensurate with the candidate's experience in executive leadership in the nonprofit sector.
