President/Executive Director
The Executive Director provides overall executive leadership of the affiliate in accordance with the direction, policies and objectives set forth by the Board of Directors of Two Rivers Habitat for Humanity (Habitat for Humanity). This role is the face and voice of Habitat for Humanity in our communities and provides leadership to work in partnership with people and organizations in our communities to build decent, affordable homes and make affordable housing a matter of conscience and action. This role develops and recommends strategic plans to the Board and manages affiliate operations to translate plans into actions and results.
Responsibilities:
Leadership:
- Provide aspirational, visionary, and visible community leadership toward the vision of affordable, safe, and healthy homes for all.
- Serve as an “ambassador” of our mission in the community and continually seek relationships and opportunities to promote and project the understanding of the need for affordable housing.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization in the community.
- Stay apprised of local and national trends and sentiment regarding affordable housing.
- Effectively steward and build relationships with other Habitat entities including Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, and neighboring Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
- Engage and get involved with local trade groups and civic organizations as beneficial, including (but not limited to) Rochester Area Builders, Owatonna Area and local chambers of commerce.
- Participate in regional, state, and national Habitat for Humanity conferences and meetings as appropriate. Bring larger-level Habitat activity and changes to the affiliate.
Staff Management:
- Ensure overall staffing structure and individual job duties meet the needs of the organization.
- Provide direct management to all direct reports.
- Ensure compliance with relevant state and federal employment laws and nonprofit best practices.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes.
- Design and implement an annual employee evaluation process.
- Design and implement staff training, professional development, and team building activities.
Administration:
- Ensure the completion of annual independent audit and IRS Form 990 preparation and approval. Remain in compliance with the annual filing requirements of MN Attorney General and the MN Secretary of State.
- Ensure the origination, closing, and servicing of all mortgages in compliance with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) mandates, State of Minnesota laws, and HFHI requirements. Stay abreast of ongoing legal changes.
Ensure that all construction activity is carried out in compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations and building codes (MN Green Communities, state building regulations).
- Continually maintain our status as an affiliate in good standing with Habitat for Humanity International, through compliance with both the letter and the spirit of all regulations and directives.
- Give leadership to the purchase of adequate and appropriate land for the construction of new Habitat homes.
- Implement the board-approved strategic plan and ensure all organizational activities align with our mission.
Financial Management & Fund Development:
- Work with the Board of Directors and Director of Operations to determine a feasible revenue plan each year that ensures necessary funding for organizational operations including individual fundraising, ReStore profits, Habitat loan programs, special events, and corporate/civic/faith community support.
- Develop relationships to engage organizations and individuals in the community for financial support or volunteer involvement.
- Seek out and submit grant applications and complete follow-up grant reporting requirements as required.
Board of Directors:
- Participate in the monthly executive committee and board meetings; Prepare the meeting agenda, attend meetings, and report to the board.
- Support and guide the work of the Board of Directors in creating strategic plans and goals; Create functional and staff objectives, tactics, and performance goals that accrue toward strategic objectives.
- Assist with the identification, recruitment, and orientation of new board members.
- Stay apprised of board and committee activities and serve as their primary point of contact.
Program Management:
Construction
- Maintain close working relationship with Director of Operations to ensure that projects are built within time and budgetary parameters.
- Assure that safety and construction practices are in place according to affiliate policy.
In consultation with the construction manager, assure the tools necessary are in place and are in good working order.
Homeownership Program
- Maintain close working relationship with Family and Volunteer Services Manager to ensure that all family selection processes, marketing materials, and procedures are fully compliant with all Fair Housing laws and other related requirements.
- Proactively reach out to all communities in need of better shelter in order to advise them of opportunities available through Habitat for Humanity.
- Work fairly, diligently, and compassionately with all past, present, and future partner families of Habitat for Humanity.
- Maintain contact with contracted mortgage servicer to stay abreast of delinquent accounts. Work with homeowners to modify mortgages when needed, foreclose when necessary.
- Provide oversight, support, and consultation to affiliate staff to ensure successful implementation of home preservation programs.
Requirements:
- Support and endorse the Habitat for Humanity mission.
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, human services, business, finance, public administration, or related field.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
- Previous managerial skills, experience and/or training required.
- Strong team leader.
- Experienced communicator with demonstrated effective writing and public speaking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Professional Suite.
- To Demonstrate integrity, organization, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of fundraising principles and processes, including grant proposal writing, donor solicitation, and event planning.
- Experienced and comfortable in making “the ask” for funds, donations, and volunteers.
- Ability to work with individuals of varying skill levels in a collaborative way.
- Understand the importance of, and maintains, confidentiality of applicants, homeowners, and affiliate information.
- Willing to attend trainings/workshops and participate in webinars as identified.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
- Possess the willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Required background check including credit history, criminal records and sex offender registry
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Working Conditions: Uneven ground on build work sites, exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noises and other adverse conditions associated with job site activity.
