The Holyoke Health Center (HHC) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization with a strategic vision to meet the needs of the diverse community it serves in the changing healthcare environment. HHC has demonstrated capacity as a highly respected statewide and national leader in health care delivery innovation, advocacy, responsive programming, and expertise in the care of high-risk populations.
This is an opportunity for a seasoned healthcare executive to lead a high performing health center as it continues to improve access and clinical outcomes for the individuals and families it serves. The next CEO of HHC will have the opportunity to build on a substantial foundation of success to increase access to comprehensive, patient-centered and integrated care to the residents of Western Massachusetts.
The next CEO will be joining HHC during a pivotal time. We seek candidates who bring experience leading a growing, complex system in a time of transformational change in the delivery and financing of healthcare. Anticipating, adapting, and innovating new operational, care delivery, and financial models will be a critical factor for future success. HHC is one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in Western Massachusetts, striving to improve and maintain the health of individuals and families in the Holyoke-Chicopee and surrounding communities. HHC serves one of the most underserved areas in Massachusetts with the second highest percentage of its families living in poverty in the state. Additionally our service area is home to the highest percentage of Latino-identified residents in the state and has the highest per capita percentage of Puerto Rican residents in the country, outside of Puerto Rico. Our patient population mirrors our service area population with over 72% of our patients receiving Medicaid and 64% of our patients identifying as Hispanic/Latino.
HHC is a state-of-art provider of highly accessible, culturally competent and patient-centered adult and pediatric primary care. HHC’s services include an onsite 340B pharmacy, primary medical care, and integrated oral health and behavioral health services. HHC has two full service medical, dental, and pharmacy sites; one located in downtown Holyoke, MA and the second located in Chicopee, MA.
Providing care to over 22,000 patients through over 100,000 visits annually, HHC is staffed with over 300 employees including a clinical staff of more than 30+ full and part-time physicians, nurse practitioners, 6 family nurse practitioner residents and 12 full and part-time dentists and 10 dental residents. HHC also has a large innovative Pharmacy that is fully integrated with our medical services and providers, and includes residency and pharmacy student teaching programs. HHC is accredited by JCAHO and recognized as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home by the NCQA.
HHC is a founding member of C-3, a statewide Accountable Care Organization that now includes 19 health centers and has become the primary insurer for 60% of our patient population. The candidate will join the C-3 Board of Directors and will be expected to help lead the continuing development of this successful and innovative organization.
To be credible in this role, the CEO should be a seasoned executive with extensive executive leadership experience within a hospital or integrated health system and a mission driven commitment to quality patient care. He or she should be a confident and energetic leader, with a balance of creativity, strategic thought, compassion and strong financial and operational acumen. The next CEO will be a values-driven leader with an unwavering level of integrity and a track record of success implementing strategic growth and achieving strong financial, operational, and quality performance. The CEO should be viewed as a highly effective communicator and trusted relationship builder. The CEO must be a system thinker and understand the importance of balancing local and enterprise interests. Candidates should be viewed as a visible community leader and understand the importance of a health system to the local Holyoke community.
Most significant, the new CEO will assume the mantle of leadership from the highly regarded CEO who is about to retire. The new CEO must perpetuate the strategic and operational leadership required to both drive and absorb significant growth in the coming years.
