In support of this mission, the GWSB Office of Undergraduate Programs is searching for a Senior Academic Advisor. This individual is a key contributor to the success of the Office of Undergraduate Programs.
This position reports to the Assistant Director (Curriculum) for Undergraduate Academic Advising within the Office of Undergraduate Programs. This position does not have direct reports but will supervise two undergraduate student mentors who serve as classroom teaching assistants.
This experienced position guides student development in the classroom, through academic advising and co-curricular programs and opportunities. This position provides guidance to students on their course of study from orientation through graduation. This position educates students on university policies and procedures, goal setting, academic planning, and course selection.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Academic Advisor teaches two sections of BADM 1001, 1002, or 1003 (the First Year Development Program and/or Transfer Development Course) each semester. They are responsible for ensuring the students meet the learning objectives of the course as established by the Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs.
The Senior Academic Advisor also serves on school/campus-wide committees and/or fulfills programming responsibilities such as new student orientation, GW Professional Academic Advising Network, admissions panels, or other committees and assignments as requested by the Associate Dean or Executive Director of Undergraduate Programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
