Underscoring the power of creativity, ingenuity, invention and inclusion, what’s Next will accelerate our unrivaled momentum, evidenced by eight straight years of record enrollment and rankings that include placement among America’s top 100 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. Home to a diverse student body of nearly 47,000 and more than 4,200 distinguished faculty, the university combines its Research 1 (Very High Research Activity) Carnegie Classification with a physical setting that The New York Times recently acclaimed as “the most ambitious campus design program in the country.
A Postdoctoral position position is available with Dr. Lynne Haber in the Risk Science Center (RSC) of the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences, College of Medicine. Our group conducts applied research (literature-based, not a wet lab) in human health risk assessment, with a focus on hazard characterization, dose-response modeling, and risk characterization. We work collaboratively with various partners, including government agencies, industry, non-profits, and laboratory and field researchers. Dr. Haber’s career has focused on applied research in the area of human health risk assessment. In particular, her work focuses on improving risk assessment methods, including characterizing interspecies differences, and consideration of human variability, and analyses of data-poor chemicals. Other interests include use of mode of action data in risk assessment, use of biomarkers in risk assessment, methods for conducting class-based assessments, and hazard evaluation and dose response for exposure to nanomaterials.
We are seeking a talented and self-motivated scientist to join us in our research on assessing human health risk from exposure to organic flame retardants, nanomaterials, and other industrial chemicals.
Benefits Include:
The successful candidate for this position would have a strong background in biological sciences and an interest in learning and gaining experience in human health hazard and risk assessment, dose response, and risk characterization for chemicals and nanomaterials. Background in toxicology is a plus. The candidate would play a primary role in developing and implementing an approach for surveying the literature on health effects of and exposure to organohalogen flame retardants. Other tasks include critically evaluating primary literature and secondary authoritative reviews to determine effects and dose-response relationships of nanomaterials; and dose-response analyses (including benchmark dose) of nanomaterials and other chemicals. We seek someone who is eager to learn, well-organized, with strong critical thinking skills, and who is interested in working on diverse projects in a team environment. Strong writing skills are a plus. Other duties may include preparation of presentations and publications.
This is a full-time position for 6 months, renewable pending available funding. The Center staff is currently working remotely due to Covid-19.
A PhD degree in toxicology, biology, epidemiology, or other related field. Must be able to work as a team member.
