Looking for a great working environment at a community college? An Accommodation Specialist may be just the right job for you! Flexibility is required for an Accommodation (AT Lab) Specialist who have a variety of assignments in order to serve a diverse group of students. Main duties include: Providing reader/scribe support for students, tracking and checking out equipment, providing training to students, staff, and faculty on assistive technology used for accommodations, answering phones, scheduling appointments, scanning and attaching documents, documenting services rendered, data entry, filing, and light lifting.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating accommodation requests for students that are approved by the Accessibility Advisor under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended (ADA/AA) or section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Serving as a resource to the College regarding issues related to the ADA/AA, accommodations and disability access.
Technology:
- Proficiently using technology to communicate, review reports, and collect data for the purpose of providing accurate records and communicating with team members, students, parents, and faculty.
- Written and spoken dictation required to assist with certain accommodations in the classroom.
- Provide support in the assistive technology lab checking in/out equipment, demonstrating technology, converting textbooks to various accessible formats, and documenting student interactions.
- Independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, and model effective communication.
- Functioning as a resource for the students and DRC staff to provide training on assistive technology and accessible apps.
- Entering notes about student interactions to check in/out equipment in the AT lab.
- Providing assistance in reaching the Student Affairs departmental objectives by performing special projects and studies at the request of management.
- Accommodation Specialists must follow the DRC code of ethics, be dependable, reliable, and exhibit professionalism at all times.
- Other duties as required.
- Some travel is necessary between campuses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of accessibility/assistive technology and accessible apps.
- Ability to speak and write Spanish fluently.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Ability to read college level material with ease.
• Ability to write dictated material.
• Ability to maintain work appropriate boundaries.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships across the College with students, faculty and staff.
• Proficiency using and learning new technologies.
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to establish priorities, work independently, and accurately to meet deadlines with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
• Participate in team, department or College meetings, training’s, and activities as appropriate.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
