Full accountability for the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive health and wellness education programs that include evidenced based strategies and effective learning outcomes for a diverse student population at a multi-campus college.
Set annual goals and objectives for the Health Education area of the Center for Health and Counseling.
Supervise and manage health promotion and education staff, Student Health Advisory Club (SHAC) members and Licensed Massage Therapists.
Serve as college co-advisor to student peer educators (PALS) including selection, training and assisting in creating and performing innovative presentations and programs based on sound health principles.
Represent the Center for Health & Counseling at SLCC events and committees on campus and in the community in collaboration with other Center for Health & Counseling staff.
Serve as SLCC liaison to the statewide council of campus alcohol and drug coordinators.
Assist in the administration of health surveys (such as ACHA-NCHA) distributed on all campuses. Maintain evaluation data, prepare and distribute reports. Ensure that educational programs/training fulfill requirements of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.
Develop and perform classroom presentations.
Responsible for the design of media campaigns and advertisements for promotion of programs, as well as review and update all educational programming and/or training materials as needed.
Work with the Center for Health & Counseling Director to determine budget needs.
This is an Internal Only position for current part time and full time Salt Lake Community College employees.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Manage/Supervision.
Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and manage work assignments for health promotion staff. Work with the Center for Health & Counseling Director to determine budget needs. Accountable for expenditures related to allocated funds. Serve as co-advisor to student peer educators including selection, training and assisting them in creating and performing innovative presentations and programs based on sound health principles. Represent the Center for Health & Counseling at SLCC events and committees on campus and in the community in collaboration with other Center for Health & Counseling staff.
Health Education/Programming.
Develop, plan, implement and evaluate health and wellness programs. Work with staff in other areas of the Center for Health & Counseling on programming, event production and long range planning. Develop and perform classroom presentations. Collaborate with other SLCC departments and community groups to create networks and support for health education and promotion on campus including collaboration with other colleges and universities. Serve as SLCC liaison to the statewide council of campus alcohol and drug coordinators. Assist with the design of media campaigns and advertisements for promotion of programs, as well as review and update all programming and/or training materials as needed.
Evaluation and Data Analysis. Develop evaluation tools to be used for staff and peer education programs. Ensure educational programs/training fulfill requirements of the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. Assist in the administration of health surveys (such as ACHA-NCHA) distributed on all campuses. Maintain evaluation data, prepare and distribute reports.
Alternative Funding Sources. Assist in identifying potential grant sources and preparing grant proposals. Implement or co-ordinate, as needed, current grant administration or hosting.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health or related field preferred.
Experience working in health promotion and education in a college or university setting.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, Sociology or a related field required.
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
Zero (0) to three (3) years direct, paid, full-time work experience in a health related field.
One (1) year of direct, paid, supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to recruit, train, develop, supervise, evaluate and manage employees in the health education and massage therapy areas.
Possess supervisory and management skills.
Ability to set goals and objectives.
Ability to organize manageable activities to meet goals and objectives of Health Education area.
Ability to develop, plan, implement and evaluate health and wellness educational programs.
Ability to work within a designated budget and accountable for expenditures related to allocated funds.
Ability to represent and collaborate with staff in other units of the Center for Health & Counseling on programming, event production and long range planning.
Ability to develop business relationships and collaborate with other SLCC departments and community groups to create networks and support for health education and promotion on campus including collaboration with other colleges and universities.
Knowledge of promotional and marketing skills to oversee the design of media campaigns and advertisements for entire department.
Develop evaluation tools to be used for staff and peer education programs.
Ability to prepare grant proposals and manage current grant administration or hosting.
Ability to identify potential grant sources
and other alternative funding sources.
Knowledge of college students’ development issues, health needs and interests.
Knowledge of health related issues, including, but not limited to: alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, nutrition, eating disorders, relationship development, sexuality, sexual health, sexual assault, mental health issues, HIV prevention and alternative medicine.
Knowledge and experience developing theory and evidenced based programs, including community and individual behavior change models.
Experience in program coordination that includes conducting needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Possess a high level of professionalism.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
