The Position

The Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to study microbiota-human mucosa interactions, specifically in mucosal or barrier immunity in Man-Wah Tan’s group in the Infectious Diseases and Host-Microbe Interactions at Genentech.  The successful applicant will have deep knowledge of and strong technical skills in immunology, microbial genetics, or microbe-host interactions. The postdoctoral fellow will initiate a research project to investigate interactions between commensal microbiota and the host at the mucosal surface at the molecular level. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work closely with a diverse scientific team that includes microbiologists, immunologists, oncologists, and bioinformaticians.

Requirements:

  • Recent PhD and/or MD degree in the field of microbiology, immunology, innate immunity, mammalian cell biology or microbe-host interactions

  • Direct experience in applying basic laboratory techniques relating to the above disciplines

  • Experience with culturing and genetic manipulation of microbiota, immune cells, organoids, imaging and new microscopy techniques is a plus

  • A record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by one or more first author paper published or accepted in a well-recognized peer-reviewed journal 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are also needed

Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $64,800 and $120,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below:
