Molloy College seeks an energetic, creative, visionary who will serve as the Dean for the School of Business. The successful individual will have the opportunity to join Molloy College at a time of excitement and growth providing the opportunity to set a strategic direction for the School, enhance the visibility and reputation of the business programs, and lead the School in gaining initial accreditation. The next dean should be able to promote the mission and values, history, and Dominican tradition of the College, while embracing the Business School’s focus on executive- and experiential-based education.

The School of Business at Molloy College promotes active learning and engages students in experiential education initiatives that prepare students to be successful in the fast-paced world of global business. The School’s focus on a broad and deep business education provides students opportunities to partner with local, national, and international businesses and so further enhance their learning experiences, which includes students getting internship experience as early as their freshman year. The School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Accounting, Management, Finance, Marketing, and economics. The MBA program offers concentrations in Accounting, Management, Marketing, Finance, and Healthcare Management. The School currently enrolls 375 undergraduate and 245 graduate students with coursework that is delivered on campus and online. The School of Business has been awarded candidate status for accreditation by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).
As the senior academic officer of the School, the Dean shall be responsible for the effective leadership, administrative oversight, resource allocation and management (including fiscal/budgetary issues and workload), oversight of faculty/student scholarly activities and service to the Molloy and broader community, and liaising with other schools/departments, as well as the College administration. An essential prospect for this Dean will be the opportunity to lead the School during a time of exciting and positive change at the College. The next dean will set a shared and strategic vision for the school with a focus on enhancing its recognition and reputation, while leading efforts to build the School’s endowment. In a very high competition area, the dean will implement best practices in the recruitment and retention of students at the undergraduate and graduate level. To support growth, there will be opportunities for the dean to hire additional faculty lines within the school and work with key stakeholders to develop new undergraduate and graduate programs. In alignment with the School’s emphasis on executive based education the dean will establish and maintain relationships with industry partners to support students and programs within the School, while also ensuring that curriculum and programs align with the changing needs of industry in the region and beyond. The dean will also take the lead in cultivating relationships with key donors and emerging alumni base for the School. The dean will join a very supportive and collegial team in the School of Business and should work to develop areas for collaboration with the other academic units at the College and empower faculty to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary programs. The next Dean will also play a key role in fostering a supportive environment for faculty, staff, and students while advancing initiatives to ensure a diverse, equitable, and inclusive atmosphere in the School.
Required qualifications
An earned doctorate from a recognized accredited university is preferred; Master’s degree in a Business-related field is required. The next dean should demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the mission of Molloy College and should embrace the "Executive Based Education" approach of The School of Business. In addition, the candidate should have significant experience and have demonstrated a record of accomplishment in both a complex business organization and higher education. Academically, experience should include growing and promoting research within a traditionally teaching-focused institution; curriculum and assessment; development and fundraising experience; administrative experience in managing graduate and undergraduate programs; experience and familiarity with distributed learning models and undergraduate research; a high level of competency with technology; a record of innovative problem solving and outcomes driven leadership; and a track record of collaborative relationships both internal and external to the College.
The successful candidate will have significant administrative experience such as dean, associate dean, department chair, program director or equivalent position and academic credentials commensurate with the rank of associate professor or professor in the college. Demonstrated success in promoting diversity; successful relationship building experience; fostering a collaborative environment; demonstrated strong communication skills; a proven track record of high regard for faculty and a leadership style that ensures the development of a high performing, cohesive, collegial faculty; Demonstrated knowledge of the guiding principles of business ethics, and understanding of a dean’s role in enrollment and retention efforts; successful budget management skills; and experience in hiring, developing and evaluating personnel in a higher education institution.
