The Department of Geography in conjunction with Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center at The Ohio State University (OSU) is seeking a post doctoral scholar to work on the modeling and understanding of water isotope variability recorded in low-latitude mountain ice cores.

Conducts and analyzes simulations using isotope-enabled earth system models; Participates in model-data comparison in collaboration with paleo climate scientists; Prepares and/or presents seminars, talks or lectures for dissemination of knowledge on low latitude alpine ice core stable water isotopes and its associated climate variables in the last 21000 years; Advises graduate students in the analysis and interpretation of model output; Write progress reports, technical reports and journal articles.

The position is to be filled January 1, 2024. The initial appointment is for one year with possible extension for one or two additional years based on performance and availability of funding.

Minimum Education Required

Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Dynamics, or related field.

Required Qualifications

A strong interest in paleoclimate modeling is required.  Familiarity with climate and water isotopes as well as supercomputing environments and related programming languages, in particular Linux, Fortran and Python are essential. Extensive working experience in programing in Fortran and Python is required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in numerical modeling is highly desirable. Written and oral communication skills sufficient to lead manuscripts and present research at conferences are also desirable.
