This position reports to the Assistant Dean Health Sciences/Nursing and/or Dean of Health Sciences.

APPOINTMENT PERIOD:
January 2, 2020 to May 13, 2020; Nine and one-half month annually renewable appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Instructor has the responsibility for developing curricula and teaching Nursing Program courses, as well as completing course assessments and student evaluations. In addition, specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Teach Nursing Program courses and labs with a typical load of 36 semester hours per academic year ( 18 contact hours per week), which may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Teaching assignments may include didactic, distance education, laboratory, and off-campus clinical instruction.

  • Provide 10 office hours per week for student advising, curriculum development, online course development/delivery, textbook review/selection, and assessment activities.

  • Provide professional and community service. Includes attending faculty and curriculum meetings, participation in professional development, mentoring adjunct instructors, serving on campus committees, and community activities.

  • Foster an atmosphere of inclusiveness and support for our diverse student population.

  • Be committed to implementation of the philosophy and conceptual framework of the Nursing Program and the mission of the Division of Health Sciences.

  • Maintain appropriate professional certifications and licenses as applicable.

  • Be willing to teach in other nursing courses as needed.

  • Understand and be committed to the Rhodes State College mission and two-year college instruction.

  • Actively engage student success and completion initiatives within a comprehensive student support design.

  • Be committed to nursing education professional development.

  • Perform other similar duties as required.

MAJOR WORK QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a Registered Nurse, Licensed in the State of Ohio, and have a Masters’ of Science in Nursing (MSN). Requires two or more years' experience in nursing care of the acutely and/or chronically ill. Requires an ability to organize activities and to maximize student learning outcomes; knowledge of accrediting bodies appropriate to nursing education program; must be knowledgeable in delivering instruction via distance education and in accommodating academic schedules to meet the needs of students. Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing; demonstrated working experience with hospitals, extended care facilities, and clinics. The ideal candidate would demonstrate a commitment to the value of developmental education and experience in teaching at both pre-college and college level. Previous teaching experience in teaching and both pre-college and college level. Previous teaching experience at a two-year college level is preferred. Ability to interact positively with students and colleagues is essential. Must be committed to the two year college mission and quality instruction.

SALARY:
Commensurate with education and experience.
