Job Summary

College of Lake County is seeking a skilled professional to manage the operations of the Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, and the Innovation labs for the Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (EMPS) division.

The Laboratory Specialist under the supervision of the Dean, Associate Dean, or designee, and working closely with the Department Chairs and faculty lab supervisors, assists with the operations of the Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, and the Baxter Innovation labs. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, working with students and lab interns, assisting with academic lab prep, and other duties as assigned. This is a non-teaching position.

This position is located on the Grayslake Campus, and includes Electronics Labs and the Baxter Innovation Lab.

Required Qualification

1. This position requires an Associate Degree in electronics, engineering, technology, or a combination of commensurate professional experience and formal training plus laboratory experience.
2. Good organizational skills, supervisory skills and ability to prioritize work required.
3. Experience with electronics equipment repair/maintenance.
4. Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
5. Ability to sit, walk, and stand continuously. Occasionally moves lab equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience using and maintaining rapid prototyping equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mini mills, CNC routers, vinyl print/cut machines)
2. Woodworking and/or metalworking shop experience
3. Experience supervising student workers
4. Experience repairing laboratory or shop equipment, including PLCs an other electronics equipment.
5. Technical writing proficiency
6. Experience developing and executing lab safety protocol
