Job Duties

Job Profile:
Under general direction of the Vice President, Academic Affairs, assumes responsibility for all public domain information on the Santa Monica College Virtual Campus for online delivery of academic and student services, via internet.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
(Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive not restrictive.)

  • Plan, develop, implement, manage, and support the distance learning program
  • Coordinate and supervise relevant training for faculty and staff  to convert courses to the online mode with the focus on building the most technologically dynamic content and design
  • Liaise with courseware vendors to ensure technical and practical support for online instruction and student services
  • Work collaboratively with other college departments to provide online support for campus-based classes where feasible
  • Monitor enrollments per vendors' site license agreements
  • Monitor relevant budgets
  • Provide leadership and oversight for instructional design and quality control of online courses
  • Represent the District at local, state, or national meetings pertinent to specific assignment
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, faculty staff, students and the public
  • Participate in participatory governance and administrative committees as assigned
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned
Personnel Management:
Directly supervise a small support staff.
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
  • Knowledge of diverse adult learning styles and effective teaching strategies
  • Knowledge of course design
  • Understanding of traditional and online learning pedagogy
  • Ability to develop, review, and evaluate curriculum
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to use, online educational technologies
  • Ability to develop, use, and recommend resource materials

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Master's Degree from an accredited institution and academic leadership experience or equivalent
  • One (1) year direct experience coordinating training programs, which use courseware management systems
