Mentor: Kannatassen Appavoo, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
The Department of Physics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Nonlinear and Ultrafast Nanophotonics. The ideal applicant will work in the research group of Professor Appavoo to conduct advanced nonlinear microscopy of photonic nanostructures. The main objective is to understand and control their ultrafast dynamics for applications in the energy and sensing technology. The Postdoctoral Scholar will have the opportunity to work closely with scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory (New York) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Tennessee) during the fabrication of the nanophotonic systems.
Candidates should have research experience in optical spectroscopy of nanostructures such as metamaterials or plasmonics. Background in ultrafast multidimensional spectroscopy, nonlinear optics or nanofabrication will be an asset.
Applicants should send their application to email@example.com:
(1) Cover letter
(2) Curriculum vitae with full publication list
(3) A list of three names and email addresses of individuals familiar with their research qualifications
About the University and Research Team:
More info about our team and newly built facilities in ultrafast spectroscopy can be found at appavoo-lab.org. Questions regarding research should be email to Prof. Appavoo at firstname.lastname@example.org.
UAB is situated in the vibrant city of Birmingham – few hours from Atlanta, Nashville and the Gulf Coast. UAB has an enrollment of nearly 21,000 students, with a $516 million of total research expenditures. Recent data from the National Science Foundation ranks UAB No. 18 nationally among public universities and No. 34 overall in federally financed research.
About our Postdoc office:
UAB is committed to the development and success of outstanding postdoctoral scientists. Here at UAB, nearly 250 postdoctoral fellows are training currently in a variety of disciplines, including dentistry, engineering, health professions, medicine, natural sciences and mathematics, public health, optometry, and social and behavioral sciences. Competitive postdoc awards are available including internships, grant incentives, funds to enhance education and collaboration outside UAB, and teaching opportunities at local universities. There is also a Postdoc Research Day with monetary awards. The OPE strongly encourages UAB research mentors to follow the National Research Service Award stipend level guidelines, and postdoctoral scholars qualify for health, life, and other insurances. They also have the right to participate in the university’s 403(b) program and enjoy vacation, sick leave, maternity/paternity leave, and other benefits.
