Job Description Summary
Under the general direction of the Vice President of Academics, the Director of the Library provides campus-wide leadership and management for the day-to-day operations of the Library and Audiovisuals. The primary responsibility is providing excellence in instructional support services and resources to students, faculty, and staff in all academic areas.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Master’s Library Science or Master’s Library and Information Science from a regionally accredited institution.

Previous experience in educational or public setting as Librarian or assistant librarian or in educational technology instruction.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong computer/technical skills. Effective and efficient use of Microsoft Office, strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of ILS (Integrated Library Systems) Blackboard, SACSCOC, State Authorization, and ADA compliance.

Should have a poised, professional appearance and demonstrate positive customer service. This staff member should have strong communication skills, superior grammar, advanced computer skills, strong organizational and planning skills.

Essential Duties
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages the day-to-day functions of the following instructional support services: library and Audiovisual (innovative technology, including the North Carolina Information Highway).
  • Manages departmental budget.
  • Ensures a current, relevant collection of resources, both in print and online, in support of the instructional programs.
  • Manages interlibrary loan and test proctoring.
  • Provides leadership for the development of annual and strategic goals and collaborates with deans, faculty, and staff to develop strategies for implementing those goals.
  • Collaborates with campus deans and directors to ensure integration and support for Library and Audio Visual services.
  • Facilitates the identification and implementation of innovative instructional approaches and technologies to enhance student engagement and learning, such as Blackboard.
  • Ensures library compliance with accreditation, licensure, and ADA standards.
  • Facilitates quality assurance procedures and test practices for distance learning courses and programs, including State Authorization.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates activities to ensure that academic support services are regularly assessed for evidence of student achievement and learning, particularly concerning accreditation standards.
  • Identifies personnel needs for the Library, including recruiting and hiring qualified professional and support staff.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all Library staff members in the performance of their job duties and personal development.
  • Works closely with college administrators, deans, directors, and faculty to facilitate technology deployment in e-learning environments.
  • Develop methods and techniques to promote the maximum utilization of facilities and learning resources available through the Library for students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Acts as a liaison with area libraries and appropriate members of NCCCS.
  • Maintains a strong background in computers/technology and library services.
  • Competent in accessibility standards and copyright law.
  • Understanding of the community college mission and practice of an open-door policy.
  • Understanding of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Demonstrate excellent reference skills and ability to relate to all ages.
  • Demonstrate patience, tact, and excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate poise in a busy setting, serving students, faculty, staff, and patrons with high expectations.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and establish effective working relationships with faculty, staff, colleagues, and the community.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise leadership and motivate others, resourcefulness in problem-solving.
  • Strong computer/technical skills, effective and efficient use of Microsoft Office, and strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible with the understanding that work at a community college is fluid.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary
$58,500 - $72,000 Based on the College’s salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience.
