Position Description

LGBTQ American History Instructor, (Temporary, Part-Time Pool)

Job Duties
1. Teach in-person History 45 ( LGBTQ American History).

2. Teach courses cross-listed with the LGBTQ Studies Department as assigned.

3. Participate in curriculum development.

4. Advise students on issues relating to LGBTQ Studies.

5. Act as a liaison with the LGBTQ community and student organizations.

6. Participate in conferences, workshops, and symposiums related to LGBTQ Studies.

7. Participate in other faculty responsibilities and duties as appropriate, such as department meetings, department and campus committee work as well as professional development activities.

8. Perform professional duties including, but not limited to, testing, grading, assessing and reporting student learning outcomes, maintaining grade book, maintaining student attendance records, etc.

9. Submit crucial reports (grades, student learning outcomes, etc) on time.

10. Teach in-person day, evening, and/or Saturday classes at any of the College’s campuses as required.

11. Supports and engages in a culture of culturally responsive and ant-racist practices as related to student success.

12. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.

13. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

2. Earned Master’s Degree in History from an accredited institution;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree in Political Science, Humanities, Geography, Area Studies, Women’s Studies, Social Science or Ethnic Studies AND Bachelor’s in History from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT .

Desirable Qualifications
1. Earned Master’s Degree or higher in History from an accredited institution, with demonstrable emphases (major) in LGBTQ history and/or United States History (at least 5 upper division and/or graduate level courses); or the equivalent.

2. Previous experience teaching LGBTQ American History or United States History or American Civilization/American Studies at the community college level, or equivalent.

3. Previous teaching experience in LGBTQ American History or United States History or American Civilization/American Studies at the college level.

4. Previous teaching experience in LGBTQ courses at the community college or college level.

5. Related professional experience in LGBTQ communities.

6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with LGBTQ youth in encouraging goal-setting, retention, and returning to school.

7. Experience in working with people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations.

8. Excellent communication skills.
