About the Position

The Computer Applications and Business Technology (CABT) Department is seeking associate faculty who will be responsible for key activities of the Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program grant from the National Telecommunications and Infrastructure Administration. This position works to connect low-income students in underserved areas with digital literacy training and support for student success, to close digital skill gaps and equity gaps in learning. This faculty member will expand student access in the Watsonville Computer Technology Center by teaching credit and noncredit CABT courses in digital literacy and by supervising student digital navigators, who assist students with using technological resources. This faculty member will work with identified partners in the community to extend reach and create bridges to the college. The position focuses on a population that benefits from outreach and instruction in Spanish and English.

This position will also teach beginning to advanced skills in applications including but not limited to Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Social Media for Business, and other commonly used software, as well as essential skills such as customer service, time management, business writing, and communication.

About Associate Faculty Requirements: At the time of appointment for this position, Cabrillo College requires employees to maintain residence and permanently reside within the state of California. Candidates must understand when applying that at the time of appointment, they will need to have moved to the State of California (if applicable). Candidates must also understand that Associate Faculty assignments are considered short-term and temporary; employment for this short-term and temporary position may be terminated by the District as permitted by Education Code Section 87665 and the CCFT bargaining unit agreement.

 

Examples of Duties

 

  • Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments
  • Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
  • Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
  • Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications in one of the two disciplines listed below:

Computer Applications and Business Technology (CABT):
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two (2) years of professional experience OR
  • Any associate degree AND six (6) years of professional experience OR
  • Possess a lifetime California Community College Instructor credential in Computer Applications OR
    • Equivalent

Computer Science:

  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
  • Bachelor’s in mathematics AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration AND a Master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR
  • Possess a lifetime California Community College Instructor credential in Computer Science OR
    • Equivalent

(NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.)

  • Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field

Starting Salary: $1,599 - $2,454 per teaching unit, per semester; salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the Associate faculty salary schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $107 per unit is granted to eligible associate faculty. Assignments may be at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends; hours to be arranged.

Initial eligibility for a District-paid benefit stipend for medical and dental insurance is established at the end of two (2) consecutive academic years, including work done as a temporary contract or emergency hire, during which the member worked 15 or more teaching units in the academic year; summer sessions preceding the academic year, fall, and spring of the academic year. At the end of this two (2) year period, the unit member is eligible for benefits the following academic year. Once initial eligibility has been established, an associate unit member maintains eligibility for the district-paid benefits stipend if the unit member works 12 or more teaching units each year.
