Reports To: Director of Advising

General Summary:

The Academic Advisor is responsible to the Director of Advising for working with students to develop academic plans of study. The Academic Advisor will be responsible for providing a variety of counseling and learning opportunities at RCC that will support students seeking to earn their certificate, associate degree, and/or transfer to four-year educational institutions. The Academic Counselor works with current and prospective students on academic options and provides information on services available to assist them in the pursuit of their educational goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide holistic advising and referral services to assist RCC students in degree and certificate programs preparing for career and/or transfer to a four-year institution, that will contribute to the full development of the student's potential.
  • Refer and facilitate student access to all supportive services available to RCC students, including resources for career planning and basic needs support
  • Verify student eligibility for specific classes, online registration, and eligibility for placement, developing education plans
  • Respond to student inquires on student services, matriculation procedures, and various college admission requirements and deadlines, including admission, financial aid, and registration processes, as well as transfer options and articulation agreements
  • Conduct student outreach and information sessions
  • Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas
  • Day, evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required

 


Job Requirements:


Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Adult Education, or a related area, with three (3) years of experience and/or training involving college admissions, transfer advisement, academic advisement, financial aid, and/or career development

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of the student services team
  • Excellent technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SMS, LMS, and early alert systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and justice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Social Work, Adult Education, or a related area
  • Experience as an Academic Counselor at a community college
  • Language skills (Haitian Kreyol, French)
  • Experience in teaching and/or working with low income, first generation and/or adult learners

Additional Information:


This is a full-time, MCCC position (37.5 hrs), with full benefits.



Compensation: Starting Salary for this position is $63,288. with a bachelor's degree per the MCCC Grade 5 Professional Staff Salary Grid, salary is commensurate with Education and Experience in accordance with the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
